200 Concerned Citizens Turn Out for Community Forum

June 27, 2013 in Community Development by Jen

Citizens came to learn about the follow-up efforts of local and state officials after recent arrests made state headlines. The forum, planned by Springfield Restorative Justice, Rep. Alice Emmons and others in the community, also addressed concerns about neighborhood safety and ways to work together.

Representatives  from the local police department, the Rockingham State Police Barracks,  Springfield Select Board, Springfield Schools, Vermont Department of Public Safety, Springfield Prevention Coalition,  probation & parole, local Agency of Human Services district, and more, were available to provide direction and help answer questions.

While there are some questions about the forum’s umbrella slogan of “Not in Our Town”, the general tone was positive, especially considering the breadth of interests present.

As the information session wound up, nearly 80 people took to the streets in a walk around town- a very visual indicator that things are changing and people are literally taking back the streets.

Another forum is planned for July 10 at 7pm. The location is to be announced.
